ISPM 15 guidelines for international transport

More and more country's embrace the guidelines concerning wooden packaging in international trade, the ISPM 15 guideline

Guideline 15 of the ISPM (International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures) of the FAO (the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) dictates that wooden packaging, like pallets, need to be sterilised to prevent the worldwide spread of plagues and parasites.

In a nutshell this means that wooden pallets used for international transport need to be treated, making it bacteriological disinfected. With plastic pallets you dont have this problem.

Plastic pallets have many advantages over wooden pallets:

  • They're lighter
  • They don't splinter
  • Easy to clean
  • Better stackable and nestable
  • Don't need maintanence and last longer
