Smart transport packaging of automobile parts

Fremach (formerly Structuplas- Riesselberg), manufacturer of various plastic parts for the electronic and automobile industry appeals to the logistics knowledge and solutions of Engels.

Vacuum-formed interiors for Toyota Yaris automobile parts

The request of the customer seems simple at first. The automobile parts must be transported from the Structuplas factory to the customer. But such an endeavour involves a great deal. First the parts are injection moulded and are still warm when they are placed in the bins. The bins must provide protection against deformation and scratching. A second point which is very important for the customer is the phased delivery of the right packaging. The orders can vary in quantity and delivery date, and the customer does not want to build any stock himself.

Our solution

For the transport of the products the decision was made to use plastic bins with base dimensions of 600 x 400 mm, and of 400 x 300 mm. Interiors are placed in these bins to protect the products. The interiors are designed in such a way that they are as versatile as possible. This enables Structuplas to place fourteen different products in ten different interiors and eight associated bins.

The service of Engels does not stop at the sale of the bins. Engels also assumed responsibility for the entire further co-ordination of the project:

  • setting up the warehouse locations for incoming goods
  • assembling and bringing together all goods
  • the phased delivery of the product groups to the customer

The total project consists of a volume of 21,400 bins with interiors. Along with this, 1200 pallets and covers were also delivered. Do you also need packaging that can be used over and over again for the transport of your products? Give us a challenge!!!

Re-useable packaging automobile parts Opel

Structuplas had to deal with a situation where the packaging of the automobile parts required much time and handling. The conversion of an internal packaging line was needed so the various components could be inserted as ergonomically as possible/p>

At the time of the analysis, Structuplas was using adapted high-volume bins in which the injection moulded parts were placed. In the process, each product was pushed into a plastic bag and placed in the bin. As a divider, a cardboard covered with PE foam was inserted. This took much time and caused annoyance on the work floor.

Ergonomics on the packaging line

First, Engels suggested an improvement in the high-volume bins. The bin should be provided with transversely mounted rigid casters and swivel casters. The rigid casters are strengthened by placing a metal pipe between then. In this way the bin can carry 400 kg and still be easy to move from place to place.

The second improvement was made for the interior. The parts to be transported are extremely fragile and can be easily scratched. After a thorough analysis, the decision was made to use a interior made of multilayer, polyester textile making use of large suspension files with a flexible, transparent dust cover. The parts can be protected and easily inserted and transported.

Engels feels right a home in the development of reusable packaging. Whether it relates to bins, pallets, containers or interiors, Engels is the right place to go with your logistics problem.
