Sharps containers

Used lancets, test strips and needles are classified as small hazardous waste. Needle cups are equipped with an innovative temporary locking system: a single push of a button allows secure opening and closing. By properly using and disposing of the sharps container, a large part of needlestick injuries can be prevented

Clinical waste wheelie bins

In the ADR (international legislation for the transport of dangerous substances) and the EURAL (European Waste List) a distinction is made between “unspecified hospital waste” and waste with a serious, known risk of contamination. The first group forms the bulk of the waste.

International regulations also allow sterilization instead of incineration, a much cheaper alternative. After sterilization, there are no longer any special regulations, and the waste can normally be incinerated or landfilled. Until then, this waste flow does fall under the “Act of Transport of Dangerous Substances” even on the hospital's own site.
